A common practice which was witnessed in the country before the amendment of article 17 was untouchability. Article 17 of the Indian constitution sheds light upon the abolishment of untouchability of the Dalits. This resulted in empowering them by allowing them the right to education, usages of public facilities and entering places of worship.
