Before independence, India was different. All the states used to be under some kings and Princes. After independence, many things were changed. The three major problems which we faced were,
Pakistan was a different country. 8 million refugees were in India.
500 princely states that used to exist there, which were ruled by some Maharaja or Nawab had to pursue a new nation.
Since the nation was now free from a princely state, they had to adopt a political system.

When Dr. Ambedkar said that in politics, we will have equality, he meant that UAF will be providing equal opportunity in political life. The police will have one person one vote policy, but this was not enough to remove inequality between caste, religion, rich and poor. The social and economic life will still not accept every religion and people as one. The principle of one man one value will still be denied by many people in society and by many of us.
3. Why did the scroll painters and potters come to Kalighat?
In the erstwhile Bengal presidency, around the centre of the Kalighat temple, the local scroll painters or patuas, and potters or kumors developed a new kind of art.
They began to move to Calcutta around the early 1800s because the city was then thriving as a centre for commercial and administrative activities. Thus, Calcutta appeared to be full of opportunities to make a living.
4. Why was the Planning Commission important for the development of India?
The Planning Commission was critical for the development of the image of the India we see today. It helped in the designing and execution of appropriate policies for the overall economic development of the country.
5. Why did English continue to be a part of languages in India?
Although a lot of the Constituent Assembly's members were in favour of Hindi in place of English, the non-Hindi speaking population opined differently. Several South Indian states threatened to separate if Hindi would be compulsorily imposed upon them. Therefore, Hindi remained the official language of India, while English was the language of the courts, services as well as communications between States.
