KBPE or the Kerala Board Of Public Examinations is the main education body of Kerala, which is independent and functions under the Ministry Of Secondary Education, Government Of Kerala. KBPE conducts all the public exams in Kerala like SSLC, HSC, SSC, etc.

SCERT is the State Council of Educational Research and Training. There are two main boards, which are responsible for primary, secondary, and higher secondary education in Kerala. The Kerala State Education Board or the KSEB conducts the SSLC class 10 exams. Meanwhile the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education or the DHSE conducts the HSE exam for plus one and plus two i.e. for Classes 11 and 12 every year.

KSEB & DHSE Exam Date Sheet

The Kerala Board Class 10 Exams for the year 2020, that was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak was expected to take place by the end of this month. According to the newly released date, the exams were to start from 26 May 2020 and to be held during the morning session. The Class 12 or Plus Two exams were to be conducted from 26 May 2020 to 30 May 2020 during the afternoon session.

About KBPE

Kerala Board Of Public Examinations i.e. the KBPE is an independent department for education, which is responsible for conducting the Public Examinations like SSC, HSC, SSLC, ALEVEL, KTET, TTC, THSLC, and KGTE. KBPE functions directly under the Ministry Of Secondary Education, Government Of Kerala and thrives to promote world-class education in Kerala.

Among the various functions of KBPE, some of the most notable ones are governing and executing activities like prescribing syllabus, devising courses of study, conducting exams, providing directions and support, and giving affiliations to colleges.

History of Kerala Board Of Public Examinations

It was established in the year of 1965, mainly with the purpose of propagating education to all sections of the people. The motto that it runs by is “Reach the Unreached,” within Kerala via a private or regular mode of education. They also aimed to concentrate on reaching out to the often sidelined socio-economic and religious section.

The board also imparts formal school level education to students of class 1 to class 12. It also holds public exams for class 10 and +2.

Functions of KBPE

Some of the chief functions of the KBPE- Kerala Board of Public Examination is to enforce the rules and regulations which have been set for the schools affiliated with the Kerala Board. Other added functions include governing and executing activities like prescribing syllabus, devising courses of study, conducting exams, providing directions and support, and giving affiliations to colleges.

SCERT & Education in Kerala

SCERT or The State Council of Educational Research and Training, Kerala is an education board of Kerala which prepares the curriculum for the schools affiliated to it. It is an autonomous body and is responsible for planning, implementation, and evaluation of all the academic programmes from pre-school to higher secondary levels. Due to proper education, Kerala is now among the most literate states in India and is the first state to achieve 100% primary education.

For private schools, English is the main language of instruction while Government schools offer both English and Malayalam. There are two regulatory bodies for the primary and higher secondary education in Kerala namely,

KSEB

The Kerala State Education Board (KSEB) is the education board of Kerala which is responsible for conducting the class 10 exam or SSLC exam for all the affiliated schools and award the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) to the students who clear it. The main subjects that are included in the high school classes are Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, Social Sciences, First Language (English, Malayalam, etc.), Second Language, and Third Language (Hindi, GK). The exams are generally conducted in March and KSEB declares the results by May.

Looking at the pass percentage, it can be said that the pass percentage of the students in SSLC exam is excellent which reflects the literacy rate of the state.

DHSE

The Directorate of Higher Secondary Education or the DHSE was established in 1990 and came in full effect by 2000-2001. The Government of Kerala established the DHSE to promote all round development in Higher Secondary Education by segregating pre-degree courses from University education. The DHSE implement effective administrative systems, motivated and highly qualified staffs, institutional network and appropriate philosophies to make Higher secondary education more effective.

VHSE

VHSE Kerala is short of Vocational Higher Secondary Education in Kerala which refers to the different vocational courses that can be taken in the state. The vocational education is aimed to prepare students to develop skills which will enhance their employability. The VHSE Kerala board conducts the VHSE exam and is also responsible for declaring the results.

At present, there are 35 restructured vocational courses in around 389 schools all across the state of Kerala. It should be noted that the age limit for any vocational course is 15 to 20 years and the students should pass SSLC Kerala class 10 exam, CBSE class 10, ICSE class 10 or any other equivalent exam.

Kerala Board Exam Results

Kerala SSLC exam for class 10 is conducted on the month of March every year and the results are generally declared on May. The DHSE plus one and plus two results are also generally released on the month of May every year. Similarly, the VHSE results are also declared on May. Grading System

Grades are awarded to the students by the KSEB based on their marks in SSLC class 10 exam. The grades represent the performance of the students in the exam. The grading system of KSEB is simple and is given in the table below.

Note: If a candidate fails to achieve 30 or D+, which is the minimum passing marks, his/her results are put on hold by the KSEB board. This is equivalent to failure and the candidates will get eligible for pre-degree courses.
